How do you define the Paral·lel Festival in one word? Essential.
Your Paral·lel 2016 experience: I landed in Barcelona on Friday early morning and easily found my way to the festival with the shuttle service from Plaza Catalunya. You could feel the excitement growing in the bus while reaching the beautiful area of Guardiola de Berguedà, as the whole picture looked very promising! Yes, I was one of those who didn’t google out the place before deciding to go. Once there, I quickly got the bracelet and my glamping tent assigned by the young and super kind staff. The rest of the afternoon was spent exploring the incredible venue and catching up with old and new friends who joined the festival last minute, while enjoying the opening by Luigi Tozzi. The festival proceeded super smoothly till Saturday early afternoon, till Mother Nature decided to take over during the set of Silent Season´s head Jamie McCue with a storm of biblical proportions. Forced in the tent with my group by circumstances, I honestly thought the festival was over, since the rain did not stop for few hours. As mentioned above I knew nothing about the venue, but apparently is quite common for the locals to have such heavy rain during summer, so nothing to worry about! When we got out of the tent it was sunset and the panorama was crazy! Pink clouds and fogs from the mountains overlapping and mixing in a heavenly view of the lands, simply amazing. The music restarted in the evening with Abdullah Rashim, in a surreal environment that seemed almost adapting to his sound, one red spot illuminated the foggy land (natural fog!!) bringing the crowd back to life after a not so easy afternoon. A lot of energy released from that night onwards, realizing how lucky we were to live those days on the mountains! I have mixed feelings about that Sunday, because Sunday is the last day! Everybody knew that we had to leave soon but not before making the best out of it! The crowd evolved into one single being dancing in the heath of the Spanish sun. The closing session by natural/electronic.system. will live through as the best couple of hours in festival´s history (personal opinion). Monday morning, 9 o´clock, going back home with my friends while thinking already about next year, love Paral·lel!
Which one was the best moment for you? Why? The storm! The moments dancing under the heavy but still bearable rain till the inevitable interruption of the music, it was a collective revelation: an epiphany, can´t find better words for it. The crowd, Jamie´s music and that meteorological disaster were perfectly in synchrony. That was something special.
Give one advice to someone who didn’t go to the first edition: Come, and be positive! People are there to have fun and connect. Remember to be respectful towards nature, the festival goers and especially yourself. And bring a raincoat but also some sun cream just in case.
